The Geographe and Alternative Varieties Wine Show was held over 4 days in Bunbury at the Regional Entertainment Centre, in the last week of September 2018. The team of judges was led by this years’ James Halliday Winemaker of the Year – Julian Langworthy. He was ably accompanied by well known WA wine industry identity, Erin Larkin and Brendan Carr, winemaker from Xanadu.

Over 180 wines were entered from across the Geographe Region for the regional awards, and included some great alternative varieties from across Western Australia for the alternative variety awards.  Vineyard 28 was in good company.

The standards were high and Vineyard 28 were pleased to achieve the results we did with our wines.

Thanks must go to all the hardworking volunteers and the judges that make shows like this possible.

Wine Equip Award for Best Sweet Table Wine – 2017 Moscato

Awarded at the 2017 Geographe and WA Alternative Varieties Wine Show.

Mark & Pippa were very excited to receive the Wine Equip Award for Best Sweet Table Wine for the 2017 Moscato at the recent 2017 Geographe and WA Alternative Varieties Wine Show. The award was presented at the Gala Dinner held at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on Friday 22nd September.

The 2017 Moscato is an excellent example of this style of wine, and the first to be made from a blend of our fruit from both the Vineyard 28 and Wildwater sites.

With a touch of pink hues, this sweet and spritzy style is excellent as an aperitif or will be appreciated by those who like sweeter style wines.

Their 2017 Arneis and 2015 Nebbiolo were also awarded Silver Medals in their respective classes at this Wine Show. This is a second Silver Medal for the 2015 Nebbiolo, showcasing a broad range of recognition from wine judges across Australia.

Wine of the Week
Vineyard 28 the Alternative Arneis 2014 ($22)
If you are travelling around this summer, then the five wines I have listed this week are worth checking out at the various wineries. Vineyard 28 is a little between Mandurah and Harvey doing some good thing with this Piedmont variety. I like the crunchy, lively mouth feel here. Stacks of pear and spice with citrusy edge to it. The palate is deep and lightly textured with plenty of sustained flavour. The acid creates a clean, crisp finish. Nice current drinking wine. Go to vineyard28.com .au. 92/100
